2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 Test Drive Review

The Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 didn't need more power, but for 2020 Mercedes gave it a bump none-the-less. Is this still the best choice in mid-size luxury crossovers? We have a complete look, right now. To learn about other options and features visit AutoNationDrive.com, click New Cars, Research, Mercedes-Benz and then select GLC 300.

The Mercedes-GLC is a mid-size crossover that packs quite a punch, not just in terms of power, but also in comfort and capability. Pricing starts at $42,500. As you see it here, with some interior upgrades and all-wheel drive, you're looking at $52,940 including destination and delivery.

Under the hood is a two-liter inline four-cylinder that's been turbo-charged for 255 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes-Benz says this is good to run from zero to 60 in a quick 6.1-seconds. But it's not just about speed. The GLC 300 is practical too. In the back is 19.4 cubic-feet of cargo capacity with a privacy cover. Remove the cover and stow it below the floor, fold the seats down with a push of a button, and you're looking at 56.5 total cubic-feet.

The second row provides excellent comfort, even for adults, which is surprising considering how small it looks on the outside. Up front, the GLC 300 has first-class accommodations worthy of the Mercedes name. All the touch points feel premium with technology integrated seamlessly throughout. Included features include wireless charging for compatible devices. An available fully-digital gauge cluster integrated with touch sensors on the wheel for customization. Our test car also came with the AMG-Line body styling, which looks amazing. It really completes the package.

The large central display isn't just beautiful, it's also useful, with deep information about the vehicle. Customize drive modes, with a flip of a switch, you can pick between Comfort, Sport Eco and custom modes. All the menus are refined and modern. With responsive touch controls. Of course, there are also physical shortcuts on the dash.

Advanced safety features include active brake assist, blind spot assist with exit warnings and adaptive cruise control. The rear-view is high-res with tracking lines. Even the headlights are LED. Controlling the main display can be done with either the main wheel or the touchpad. You access a lot of different options fast and efficiently. Plug in your mobile device to launch Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, which looks amazing on the large high-resolution display. If you opt for the Burmeister sound system, you get amazing speakers, that look great too. Really the whole package of the GLC 300 is gorgeous. But how does it drive?

For a luxury midsize crossover, you might just be surprised about how well this rig handles. Turn-in is brisk, brakes are great and power - the power is fantastic. On the highway, you'll cruise in utmost comfort, thanks to an excellent suspension setup. With the included adaptive cruise control, you'll find new reasons to drive longer distances.

This isn't the most economical crossover, but for what you're getting in return, it's more than reasonable: EPA rates this setup at 28 miles to the gallon highway and 21 around town. If you're looking for a mid-size crossover that really elevates the driving experience, you really should check out the latest GLC 300. It brings in all the luxury you expect, plus a sporty edge that you'll really enjoy.
