The new Ford Mustang Mach-E takes the Mustang formula and turns it on its head. Will this electric crossover take over the world? We have a complete look, right now.

When Ford unveiled the new Mustang Mach-E people were more than a little surprised. It's a Ford. It's fast. It's... a crossover? But, name aside, the Mach-E is perhaps one of the most important American cars since the original Mustang.

The Mustang Mach-E starts at only $35,395* - after the $7500 federal tax credit. The model we're testing today is the mid-range Premium All-Wheel drive trim. This features a standard 68Kwh battery for up to 211-miles of range and dual motors for 266 horsepower and a whopping 428 lbs-ft of torque. Price as you see it here, with upgraded Rapid Red paint: $42,600* after federal tax credit.

Charging is easy, with a standard DC Fast charging connector and the FordPass nationwide network of charging stations that allows you to plug-in and charge quickly, and easily when you're away from home.

Being a crossover, the Mustang Mach-E has lots of usable space, even in some unexpected areas. Up front where the engine would normally reside is a storage space. In the back, the trunk opens with a wave of your foot, to reveal a large storage area behind the second row. Fold the seats down for maximum capacity.

The second row has plenty of space for teens or adults. With accessory power in easy reach.

Up front, Ford has thoroughly re-thought the future of interiors. Nice materials are used throughout and the space is dominated by a large, beautiful screen. On this screen you can control all the features and functions: from entertainment, to navigation to power management and safety features. Everything is just a touch away.

And in terms of safety, this car is loaded: adaptive cruise control with lane detection and tracing, blind-spot warning, collision mitigation, surround-view camera and rear cross traffic alerts with auto-braking.

Ford also included a small screen in front of the driver that displays critical speed, and safety information at a glance.

The seats in this premium are beautifully tailored, with three stages of heat.

If you've never driven an electric car before, the Mustang Mach-E will be quite a surprise. Power comes on quickly, thanks to the dual motors and the massive amount of torque available as soon as you put the throttle in.

For ultimate performance change the drive mode to Unbridled. This trades efficiency for performance, as it sprints from 0 to 60 at a claimed time of only 5.2-seconds for this configuration. Upcoming Mustang Mach-E GT models will do it in as little as 3.5.

If you've been waiting for an electric car that balances comfort and performance from a brand that has been serving America for more than 100 years, the Mustang Mach-E is the car you've been waiting for.
