For 2021 Audi has refreshed its most popular crossover with new tech and more aggressive styling. The model we're looking at today is the Q5 55 TFSI e PHEV. This is the plug-in electric hybrid that blends performance with practicality, at a price that will make you consider going with a hybrid. Price as you see it here, with a number of upgrades: $60,740 including delivery. It also qualifies for a federal tax credit of $6712.

Power comes from a combination powertrain with a 2-liter engine and an electric motor. Together they output up to 362-horsepower and 369 lbs-ft of torque. The transmission is a 7-speed dual clutch with Quattro Ultra All-Wheel Drive. EPA rates this configuration at up to 50 MPGe, it also has an electric-only range of 19 miles.

The power lift gate can be activated with a wave of a foot. With all the seats down it has a total capacity of 53.5 cubic feet. In the back is also a charging cable in a bag, for optional on-the-go charging.

The second row has a large panoramic sunroof, with fold-down armrest and individual climate controls in addition to USB and 12V sockets.

Up front Audi has upgraded the Q5 55 with a standard high-resolution virtual cockpit display. The 10.1-inch MMI system has also been upgraded with a touch-screen, as Audi has done away with the touchpad that used to be placed in front of the transmission selector. This new setup is far more intuitive. Of course, it also supports Android Auto as well as wireless Apple CarPlay along with a wireless charging pad.

As you would expect from Audi, the interior fit, finish and materials are exceptional. With metals, leather and wood inlays giving a true premium experience. The seats are electronically adjustable, with three levels of heat.

Advanced safety features are plentiful, with support for collision mitigation and accident avoidance assist, lane departure warning with adaptive cruise control and lane centering, blind spot warning, and surround cameras with parking and rear cross-traffic warnings.

Several drive modes are on tap, including a dedicated EV mode which is good up to highway speeds, dynamic for performance driving, and an off-road mode that optimizes the all-wheel drive setup for rougher or slippery conditions.

On the road, the Q5 offers surprisingly brisk performance. The combined powertrain produces a lot of thrust off the line and body roll is well managed. It's a really fun to drive package. For performance fans, adaptive suspension is available.

When weather gets treacherous, the Audi Q5's Quattro Ultra all-wheel drive system does a great job of keeping power and traction well controlled. It's an added layer of safety, that also provides performance thrills for more demanding drivers.

If you're looking for a luxury crossover that checks all the boxes the new Audi Q5 55 TFSI is a great option. And, with the available federal credit, you can get a lot more crossover than you might have expected.
