  7. 2020 Audi A6 Executive Sedan Review

AutoNation Drive | Aug 29, 2020

If you're ready to move into an executive sedan, the Audi A6 is one of the best choices you can make. It's loaded with tech, comfort and power. In this video, we'll take a look at the legendary sedan, what's new and what makes this such a popular choice.

The Audi A6 was all-new in 2019, making it one of the freshest options in the executive sedan segment. It competes against the Mercedes E-Class and the BMW 5-Series. Pricing on the A6 Premium starts at $54,900. The model we're driving today has a number of upgrades, bringing the MSRP to $62,300 US-Dollars including destination.

Under the hood is Audi's turbo-charged 2-liter inline four. This setup is good for up to 248 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. It's connected to a seven-speed automatic. All A6's come standard with Quattro All-Wheel Drive. EPA rates this setup at 32 miles to the gallon on the highway and 24 around town.

Executive sedans are best known for their ability to accommodate a driver and three passengers in comfort and still have room for their golf bags. To this end, the A6's cargo area is 13.7 cubic feet, which is plenty for bags, shoes and even a couple trolleys. Passengers can even plug in their devices for charging on the road and control their own aircon.

Up front Audi has adopted a clean and driver-focused layout. Note the large dual-screens for control over all the options. Natural materials and real metal elevates the interior to true premium status - just as you'd expect. The driver's seat has 12-way power adjustments with memory and heat. I love the use of dual-screens. You can also connect an iPhone with wireless CarPlay, and wireless charging. This gives you an option between mobile navigation or the built-in system which can be used with voice control (insert) or use natural writing on the lower control screen to input a destination.

Advanced safety tech is a key buyer consideration these days, and the A6 delivers. With the optional $3700 Premium Plus package, our test car came with collision warnings, driver assistance, a satellite rear-view with cross traffic alerts, and a really cool 3D live exterior angle.

Drivers can fine-tune the A6 with a variety of Drive Modes: including Comfort and Dynamic. These Adjust powertrain response and steering weight. Our personal choice is Dynamic.

All the tech and customization is pretty cool, but it's on the open road where the A6 really sets itself apart. Thanks to the standard Quattro all-wheel drive system, the A6 is ready for any weather. Quattro also helps with handling, as the system shifts power around to all four wheels to improve handling as it carves through the corners. The standard suspension strikes a remarkable balance between comfort and capability.

Even though our Premium came with the smaller engine option, acceleration was still brisk. Audi claims a 0-60 time of a brisk 6.1 seconds. If that's not quick enough, you can always jump up to the available 335-horsepower V6. That drops the zero-to-60 time down to 5.1 seconds.

Very few cars succeed in their segment as well as this Audi A6. If you're ready to move up to an executive sedan, Audi has you covered with a sedan that checks all the boxes. The fact that it also looks this good is just a bonus.
