  5. What's New: Looking Ahead at 2021 Chevrolet Models

Last year, Chevrolet gave performance car fans what they had been waiting more than 65 years to see: a mid-engine Corvette. We've driven it, and can personally attest to the fact that it was worth the wait.

Chevy truck and SUV fans will find a lot to love about the 2021 model year. It's filled with the return of a familiar nameplate, revised styling, a new optional tailgate and next-generation SUVs. Chevy isn't leaving electric and sports car enthusiasts out, though.

They have something to look forward to, as well. These are the refreshed and new vehicles you'll be able to find in AutoNation Chevrolet dealerships soon.

In the summer of 2021, Chevy will start producing the next-generation version of its Bolt electric vehicle and Bolt electric utility vehicle. Not only will the EUV be the first vehicle of its kind in the Bolt lineup, it'll also be the Chevrolet vehicle to feature Super Cruise, the hands-free driving technology that debuted a few years ago on the Cadillac CT6 luxury sedan.

2021 Chevrolet Colorado

Exterior view of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado

Chevrolet released its second-generation Colorado as a 2015 model, a few years before midsize trucks surged in popularity again. It's been working hard showing truck buyers they don't necessarily have to get a full-size pickup to do all of the things they want to do and need to get done. To keep it looking fresh for 2021, Chevy has updated its exterior design. The WT and LT trim levels get new gold Chevy bowtie emblems, grille bars, lower fascias and front skid plates. Z71 models benefit from the same changes, except they get blacked-out bowtie badges. That signature logo is noticeably absent from the tailgate of all 2021 Colorados; Chevy replaced it in a big way by embossing the tailgate with "Chevrolet" in big block letters.

The high-performance Colorado ZR2 gets some aesthetic updates of its own. Like the Z71, it's available in a new color called "Sand Dune Metallic." As if the ZR2 didn't stand out enough already with its 3.5-inch wider track and 2-inch suspension lift, the newest version of it gets red tow hooks and a distinctive grille with hollowed-out letters that spell out "C H E V R O L E T."

2021 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

America's Sports Car is only one year into its eighth generation, but it's already getting a long list of cosmetic and technological updates. Chevy broadened the 2021 Corvette Stingray's spectrum of exterior colors by adding Red Mist Metallic Tintcoat and Silver Flare Metallic to it. It also altered the range of stripe colors. You can get the Full Length Dual Racing Stripe Package in Blue, Orange, Red or Yellow and the Stinger Stripes on the front trunk lid in Carbon Flash/Edge Red, Carbon Flash/Edge Yellow or Carbon Flash/Midnight Silver.

There's a new color combo available for the Corvette's cockpit, too. Chevy calls it Sky Cool Gray/Yellow Strike. Whichever colorway you choose for the 2021 Corvette, you'll get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as Buckle to Drive, which reminds you to buckle up before shifting out of Park, as standard equipment.

If you like the Magnetic Selective Ride Control suspension, but don't want to add on all of the other gear that comes with the Z51 package, you don't have to. Chevy will offer it as a standalone option.

2021 Chevrolet Silverado

Exterior view of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado

The 2021 Silverado is better equipped, stronger and smarter than before. All trim levels get more standard and available features. Mosaic Black Metallic, Oxford Brown Metallic and Cherry Red Tintcoat join the list of available colors. Conventional towing capacity is up for trucks equipped with the 2.7-liter 4-cylinder and 3.0-liter Duramax I6 engines. The new Regular Cab Long Box model with the turbo four and two-wheel drive maxes out at 2,280 pounds of payload and 9,600 pounds of towing. Nearly every configuration of diesel-powered Silverado can tow an additional 1,900 pounds. Two-wheel drive trucks can pull the most - up to 9,500 pounds. One thing that's down is the Duramax's price; Chevy has made upgrading to diesel $1,500 easier.

The GMC Sierra's trick six-way MultiPro tailgate is available on its Chevy cousin. The major difference is that it goes by the name Multi-Flex Tailgate. Combine that with the Silverado's five new or upgraded trailering aids, including Jack-Knife Alert and Rear Trailer View, which now has guidelines and a Trailer-Angle Indicator to help you back up what you're towing, to make your next home improvement project less stressful.

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

Exterior view of the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe

Chevy's largest people-movers are bigger and more advanced than ever. Under the eye-catching new sheet metal, which closely resembles that of the new Silverado, is an all-new chassis that gives both models a longer wheelbase and an independent rear suspension designed to improve ride quality, steering responsiveness and driver control. Available Magnetic Ride Control and Air Ride Adaptive Suspension make both rigs even more comfortable.

That increase in wheelbase, along with longer overall lengths, contributes to greater amounts of interior space. In the Tahoe, second row legroom is up three inches. In the third row, there's 10 more inches than there was in the 2020 model. Cargo space behind the third row is up 10 cubic feet. Total interior cargo space is 123 cubic feet - an increase of roughly 30 percent.

Although the Suburban's interior dimensions don't change as dramatically, all of them do go up. Second- and third-row passengers get approximately two more inches of legroom. If hauling cargo is the main priority, the Suburban can carry nearly 145 cubic feet of it; its 2020 predecessor topped out at 122.

Trim levels for both models include LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier and, for the first time ever on Tahoe and Suburban, High Country. All come standard with a 10-inch color touchscreen. Properly equipped, a 2021 Tahoe or Suburban offers an eight-inch instrument cluster, 15-inch head-up display and a pair of 12.6-inch LCD screens for rear passenger entertainment.

Chevy's 5.3-liter V8, which generates 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, powers the LS, LT, Z71, RST and Premier models of the Tahoe and Suburban. Opting for the High Country trim level pays off with the 6.2-liter V8, which provides 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft. Like their Silverado cousin, both SUVs are now available with a 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel I6. That cranks out 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of trailer-pulling torque. Chevy pairs all three engines with a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Exterior view of the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer

The Trailblazer returns for 2021 as Chevy's newest small SUV. Trim levels include the base LS, upmarket LT, sporty RS with black accents and outdoorsy ACTIV, which features specially tuned dampers, extra ground clearance (up to eight inches) and 17-inch wheels with all-season tires. Despite its exterior dimensions, the Trailblazer manages to transport items that are 8.5 feet long and carry up to 54 cubic feet of cargo.

There are two turbocharged 3-cylinder engine options: a 1.2-liter power plant with 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque and 1.3-liter unit that delivers 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft. Both are available with a CVT (continuously variable transmission); only the larger engine can be teamed up with a traditional 9-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard across the range, but all-wheel drive is an option.
