2022 Nissan Frontier Models

2022 Nissan Frontier Buyer's Guide

The 2022 Frontier is divided into two main categories, King Cab and Crew Cab, and each individual model can be configured in a 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrain.

  • King Cab S
  • King Cab SV
  • Crew Cab S
  • Crew Cab SV
  • Crew Cab Long Bed SV
  • Crew Cab PRO-X (new for 2022; 4x2 version)
  • Crew Cab PRO-4X (4x4 version)

Each model builds upon the version preceding it, meaning you don't have to choose between your favorite features - selecting the top model gives you all of the available features without compromise.

The Crew Cab PRO-4X is worth highlighting because it's the most off-road worthy with its all-terrain tires, Bilstein Off Road shock absorbers, electronic locking rear differential, and multiple steel underbody skid plates. Paved roads are definitely not necessary for this truck.

2022 Nissan Frontier Exterior

2022 Nissan Frontier Buyer's Guide

The Frontier's new look is a blend of aggressive, modern styling and nods to the iconic Nissan Hardbody truck from the '80s and '90s.

At the front, you'll find a large grille and chiseled hood, giving the Frontier its signature ruggedness and emphasizing its confident stance. Muscular fenders cover each wheel, and complement the high shoulder lines which hint at the truck's adventure readiness.

Frontier's carrying capability continues to be a highlight as the bed height has increased by 1.4 inches, delivering 40.1 cubic feet of volume for the 5-foot bed, and 49.2 cubic feet for the 6-foot bed. This is a seven percent increase over last year's model.

  • Tactical Green Metallic (new)

2022 Nissan Frontier Buyer's Guide

The strength and versatility of Frontier's exterior carries over into the passenger area thanks to an emphasis on protection and modern functionality. Nissan's designers added new trim, finishers, and accents that are inspired by gear you might use on your adventures.

The driver is treated to a largest-in-class 7-inch Advanced Driver Assist Display, and infotainment is handled by an available largest-in-class 9-inch color touchscreen display. This system comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity on all models.

And addressing the active lifestyle of its owners, Frontier offers four liters of center console storage, which is nearly double of what other midsize pickups provide. This is accompanied by 5.7 liters of rear-door-pocket storage and 6.5 liters of front-door-pocket storage. And for the first time ever, storage is provided at the top of the instrument panel. No matter how you slice it, Frontier delivers tons of interior storage, and even includes cup holders large enough for 32 ounce water bottles.

There are also lots of quality-of-life enhancements, like sound insulation, acoustic glass, and standard Zero Gravity front seats that help reduce long-range driving fatigue.

2022 Nissan Frontier Performance

2022 Nissan Frontier Buyer's Guide

The 2022 Frontier is built on a proven and award-winning chassis that's been further refined for the new model year. The powertrain, steering, and suspension have all been tuned to address the most popular requirements of U.S. truck owners.

Every Frontier model comes standard with a 3.8-liter V6 engine that delivers a best-in-class 310-horsepower with a torque rating of 281 lb-ft. A 9-speed automatic transmission helps put this performance to the ground, and offers a wider gear range with high-response electro-hydraulic control. The results are quicker gear shifts and improved acceleration response for the driver.

The steering and suspension systems have also been re-tuned for 2022, providing improved comfort with 80 percent less road vibrations and reduced body roll. Frontier 4x4 models include a driver selectable 4-wheel drive system (2WD, 4HI, 4LO) which can be activated on-the-fly thanks to an electronically controlled part-time transfer case. A 4-wheel limited-slip system is also standard on 4WD models, improving traction by sending power to the individual wheels with the most grip.

On the flagship Frontier PRO-4X model, you'll find an electronic locking rear differential, Bilstein off-road shock absorbers, and a total of four steel underbody skid plates.

Frontier's towing capacity is rated at up to 6,720 pounds, and fuel economy is an EPA-estimated 18 mpg city / 24 mpg hwy for 4x2 models, and 17 mpg city / 22 mpg hwy for 4x4 models.

  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Lane departure warning
  • High beam assist

And the 2022 Frontier is the first-ever application of Nissan Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection and Off-Road Mode. Nissan pioneered the 360-degree exterior camera view, and is making this technology even more helpful during your adventures.

When 4LO is activated in the Frontier PRO-4X, the new Off-Road Mode automatically turns on the cameras, effectively becoming a spotter when navigating tight trails.
