It comes in extended cab or a full crew cab capable of seating 4 passengers and the driver. The 2016 GMC Canyon comes standard with a 2.5L direct-injection inline 4-cylinder, dual-overhead cam engine with variable valve timing. The 2.5L creates 200 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 191-lb.ft. of torque at 4,400 rpm. A manual transmission is standard with the 2.5L engine, along with a compression ratio of 11.3:1 and a rear axle ratio offers a rear axle ratio of 4.10. The 2.5L is not included on Crew Cab models.  
GMC’s 2.8L Duramax Turbo-Diesel
New to the 2016 GMC Canyon is the 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel 4-cylinder direct-injection engine creating 181 horsepower at 3,400 rpm and 369-lb.ft. of torque at 2,000 rpm. It comes standard with a compression ratio of 16.5:1, and offers dual-overhead cams, exhaust brake, trailer brake controller, a transfer case on 4x4 models, and more. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, with an optional 6-speed automatic transmission available. The 2016 GMC Canyon with the 2.8L Duramax engine also offers a rear axle ratio of 4.10.

The biggest engine offered on the 2016 GMC canyon is the 3.6L V6 engine capable of 305 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 269-lb.ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. It comes with direct injection, variable valve timing, a compression ratio of 11.5:1, and has a rear axle ratio of 3.42. The 3.6L is standard on Crew Cab models and comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
