The supercar styling of the 2018 4C Spider draws from Alfa Romeo’s rich racing heritage, and embodies the brand’s performance-focused DNA.

Its seductive curves scream “Italian design,” while carbon fiber elements hint at the performance that lies beneath. Our test model came painted in a magnificent Rosso Competizione Red, and was complemented by optional 18-inch and 19-inch dark 5-hole wheels wrapped in staggered-width performance tires.

And in true enthusiast fashion, the 4C Spider is loaded with thoughtful details, like LED daytime running lights, LED tail lamps, and an anodized rear skid plate. Our particular 4C Spider review model further stepped things up with the addition of carbon fiber Italian flag side mirrors, Bi-Xenon headlamps, a carbon fiber halo, and Alfa Romeo Red Brembo brake calipers.

We couldn’t go anywhere without drawing a bunch of attention, and for good reason too. The exotic visuals of the 2018 4C Spider are intoxicating, and people couldn’t get enough of it. Be ready to feel like a celebrity whenever you step out of this head-turning sports car.

2018 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Interior

All it takes is one glance inside the 4C Spider to be convinced that this vehicle is on another level.

Looking more like a race car than a passenger car, the interior is housed in an exposed carbon fiber monocoque chassis, not unlike what you’d find in the Formula 1 series. Two lightweight composite-framed sport seats offer plenty of support, while the driver is treated to a leather performance steering wheel and a distraction-free cockpit.

The available Carbon Fiber Interior Trim Group added exclusivity and drama to the cabin with exposed material accents on the instrument panel bezel, shift bezel, and air vents. All 4C Spiders now come standard with a premium speaker package, and our test model also came equipped with the Alpine Premium Audio System, which features satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, and CD/MP3 capabilities.

Located just below the radio and A/C controls are the gear selector buttons, surrounded by matte-finished carbon fiber. This is where all the magic happens! (More on that in the Performance section below.)

Other interior features include a 7-inch color display in the instrument cluster, bright aluminum pedals, tilt/telescope steering column, and a removable fabric top.

With an exposed carbon fiber tub and a streamlined driver-focused layout, the experience inside the 4C Spider will make you feel like you’re part of a championship racing series.

2018 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Performance

Exhilarating, uncompromised, visceral. These are the first words that come to mind when describing the 4C Spider’s driving experience.

Its mid-engine layout, lightweight chassis, and track-ready performance are inspired by Alfa Romeo’s storied racing history and pedigree, and feature an amazing 10.4 power-to-weight ratio. A six-speed Alfa twin-clutch transmission and a 237-horsepower turbocharged engine contribute to the vehicle’s incredibly quick 4.1-second sprint to 60 mph.

The 4C Spider’s handling characteristics are akin to that of a go-kart, with its sub-2,500 pound vehicle weight and race-derived suspension setup offering seemingly endless amounts of grip. Sports car purists are sure to appreciate the omission of power steering in exchange for a manual, quick-ratio input solution that sends the most unadulterated feedback to the driver.

And things only get better when you use the Alfa DNA selector on the center console to switch from Natural to Dynamic, and then to Race mode. With a single touch, the 4C Spider adjusts its engine, transmission, differential, and electronic stability control, as well as opens up the Akrapovic titanium exhaust system for an immensely satisfying roar.

We’re convinced that the best way to refer to the 4C Spider’s on-road demeanor is “addicting.” Once you’re in the driver’s seat, you won’t want to stop.

Just like any track-prepped race car, safety is paramount in the 2018 4C Spider.

A collection of active and passive safety features are standard on the vehicle, like a driver inflatable knee-bolster airbag, traction control, electronic stability control, hill start assist, aluminum roll bar, and tire pressure monitoring display.

Our test model also came equipped with an available rear parking assist system and cruise control as part of the Spider Convenience Group.
