The RAM 1500 Limited is a Workhorse That’s Cushy Enough to be a Daily Driver

Now, I’m going to be clear here: I don’t tow, haul, or do much off-roading. But I love pickup trucks anyway. I love the big, authoritative feel and the go-anywhere, conquer anything feeling you have when you’re driving one. So I was super excited when I learned I'd be spending a week with the all-new RAM 1500. Because after reading all the reviews, and watching all the videos about it, I knew that this truck was going to be something special.

What I didn’t know until it was delivered to me was that I would be testing the high-end trim — the RAM 1500 Limited — and man, I was blown away by the comfort and luxury of this big American pickup.

Of course, at that point, I had to pull out the price sheet. That's when I realized that I was driving a pickup that has a starting price tag of $57,190* and has a total as-tested price of over $67,000*. It's pricey, for sure. But this truck is so comfortable, and so luxurious, that I might actually pick it over a large SUV for daily driving duties.

The 60/40 split tailgate is just one of the great features that makes the RAM 1500 stand out.

2019 RAM 1500 Limited 4x4 Exterior

For the longest time, I was a big fan of the exterior design on the Ford F-150— the Raptor to be specific. Then for a while, I was taken with the Chevrolet Silverado. However, neither of those has impressed me as much as the redesign of the new 2019 RAM 1500, as the design strikes a perfect balance between tough and elegant. Of course, design changes are most apparent on the front. All Ram 1500 models now have gritty and bold RAM lettering on the grille, and there's also a chiseled ram’s head logo on the tailgate.

Besides all the awesomeness you see on the front end of the new RAM, my favorite feature by far has to be the Multifunction Tailgate. On top of just having a regular drop-down tailgate, the Ram 1500 now features a 60/40 split swing functionality. While this is a great innovative feature on a pickup, it's not exactly cheap, as it'll set you back an extra $995. Other options include a panoramic sunroof and a tri-fold Tonneau cover.

For those of you wondering, the standard wheels are 20-inches, while the ones see here are the 22-inch polished painted ones.

The interior of the RAM Limited is fantastic. High-quality materials abound.

2019 RAM 1500 Limited 4x4 Interior

When I first got into the new RAM 1500, I was blown away by the use of high-quality materials, the leather-wrapped dash, stitching, and insanely comfortable heated and cooled seats. Not only that, my test 1500 came with the optional Uconnect infotainment — which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto — that's housed in a 12-inch touchscreen display.

It's one of the major highlights of the new RAM, and one of the best infotainment systems I've recently experienced. It also came with an upgraded 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, navigation, a 360-degree camera, a wireless charging pad, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a giant panoramic roof, a range of driver assist features. Basically, this baby was loaded.

Space-wise the interior of the Ram 1500 is extremely roomy. Along with 45.1 inches of rear legroom, rear passengers can enjoy a fold-down center console and available reclining rear seats with eight degrees of slide recline. The 1500 also features nearly twice as much storage capacity as its rivals. You can throw a 15-inch laptop into the front center console, or a whole bunch of iPads, and you still wouldn't use up all the space. There's also more storage under the rear seats and floor.

With the distinctive grille and huge RAM badge, there’s no mistaking this truck for anything else.

2019 RAM 1500 Limited 4x4 Performance

Now, I know the primary use for a pickup is for hauling, those with an active lifestyle, or commercial use. However, the market shows that plenty of folks just love pickups —and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Personally, I don’t do any towing, or really anything that would require me to use the space in the bed. But all the same, I love the look and feel of a pickup.

With that in mind, the 2019 RAM 1500 is the perfect daily driver. It has an insanely smooth and comfortable ride, and feels firmly planted on any surface. Unlike the trucks of yore, there's no excessive bouncing, and the air suspension smooths out imperfections beautifully. The only difficulty I had while driving around in the RAM 1500 for a week was parking it, as this is a large vehicle. That said, the 360-degree camera was a big help when I managed to find a spot that would accommodate it.

After spending a week with the the RAM 1500 Limited, I could serious see using one as a daily driver — even if I wasn’t living a hardcore pickup lifestyle.

The back seat of the RAM 1500 has plenty of legroom, and there’s also loads of storage everywhere.

2019 RAM 1500 Limited 4x4 Safety

The RAM 1500 was named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it also earned a Five Star Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

While the backup camera is standard, many safety advanced safety features, including automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and rear cross traffic alert are optional. So if a robust suite of safety tech is a must have, you'll want to make sure you check all the right boxes when it comes time to spec your truck.

The RAM 1500 Limited is a sharp-looking rig that’s as suited for daily driving as it is hauling and towing.

2019 RAM 1500 Limited 4x4 Overall

Overall, I’m blown away by what RAM was able to do with the new 1500. The attention to detail, utility, design, quality, and power all feel well ahead of its rivals. While to me it would make a great daily driver with a bold presence, to someone else it will be the perfect workhorse, and that’s just the kind of flexibility many pickup buyers need. Prices for the 2019 Ram 1500 Limited start at $57,190* and $37,885* for the Tradesman model. Visit your local AutoNation RAM dealership for a test drive today.
