The 2022 model year is combining the best of all worlds, making the new Grand Cherokee the most technologically advanced, most off-road capable, and most luxurious Grand Cherokee to ever be offered by Jeep.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trims and Models
Earlier this year, AND Editors got a chance to drive the Wrangler 4xe -- "four by e." Now, Jeep is crossing over another milestone with the introduction of its first electrified Grand Cherokee 4xe. This plug-in hybrid will offer five trim levels, while the traditional gasoline-only powertrain will have seven trim levels.

The Grand Cherokee 4xe models will start arriving at AutoNation Jeep showrooms beginning early 2022, and will feature a water-sealed battery pack, an all-electric drive mode, an estimated 57 MPGe, and up to 6,000 pounds of towing capacity. It's everything you love about Jeep, with a lot less emissions.
For off-road adventurers, the storied Trailhawk model has been upgraded to be the best version of itself, offering up to 11.3 inches of ground clearance, improved approach, departure, and breakover angles, plus an active transfer case with a rear eLSD for incredible traction.
Lastly, the Summit and Summit Reserve models offer the most luxurious interiors you'll find across the entire Grand Cherokee lineup, with quilted Palermo leather seats and a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Exterior
In the looks department, I think this is the sleekest version of the Grand Cherokee yet thanks to an emphasis on slim, sculpted details.
The roofline has been lowered and tapered, while the beltline has also been moved down a bit so that the windows can let in more natural light and allow for improved outward visibility. The Grand Cherokee's iconic grille is wider and larger, and fits nicely with the new front fascia.
For the 2022 model year, the Grand Cherokee can be spec'ed in five monotone colors, or four two-tone colorways, depending on the model:

A gloss black roof is available for the first time on the Overland models and comes standard on Trailhawk, Summit and Summit Reserve.
But the exterior features aren't all about looks, though. New active grille shutters, front wheel spats, air curtains, a hood aero flick, and rear vertical-pillar spoilers improve aerodynamic efficiency as well as fuel efficiency.

As you slide onto the plush seats of the Grand Cherokee, you might start to wonder if you've accidentally wandered into a luxury lounge at a high-end department store. This new interior has progressed from the previous generation, now offering even more handcrafted materials and modern comfort amenities.
In terms of design, the same sleekness found on the vehicle's exterior is also present inside the cabin, with slim A/C vents, a streamlined center console, and multiple digital screens. If you're all about entertainment, the Grand Cherokee can be configured to include a 10.25-inch front passenger interactive display, as well as a new high-definition rear-seat entertainment system with Amazon FireTV built in.
Hosting all of this connectivity is Uconnect 5, the most advanced infotainment system to be included with Grand Cherokee. It offers a huge selection of helpful features, like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the ability to simultaneously pair with two smartphones via Bluetooth, Amazon Alexa capability, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and more.
For maximum comfort, the front seats feature a lot of customization, including 16-way adjustments, power lumbar support, memory feature, and available heating/venting. On the higher trims, the front seats offer back massage functions - a much welcomed feature when you're sitting in traffic.
And for the first time on Grand Cherokee, all models come standard with a full suite of customizable LED lighting with daytime/nighttime settings. Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve models add to this with true ambient lighting featuring five color selections.

For the new model year, Grand Cherokee is offering buyers a choice of three powertrains:

3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine

No matter which powertrain you choose, Grand Cherokee is backed by Jeep's legendary off-road performance thanks to three available 4x4 systems: Quadra-Trac 1, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II. All three systems come standard with an active transfer case that can move torque to the wheels with the most grip, and the Quadra-Drive II system features a rear electronic limited slip-differential (eLSD) for advanced traction.
Jeep's Quadra-Lift air suspension is also available on Grand Cherokee, and delivers a class-leading 11.3 inches of ground clearance, along with up to 24 inches of water fording. This system automatically optimizes its behavior based on road conditions, or you can manually set the height to five presets.
And of course, we can't forget about the award-winning Selec-Terrain traction management system. With it, Grand Cherokee smartly coordinates 4x4 torque split, steering and suspension systems, stability control, and much more to deliver the most confident driving dynamics for any paved or unpaved surfaces. Selec-Terrain offers five modes: Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, and Mud/Sand.
Jeep is already the one to beat when it comes to off-road performance, but the 2022 Trailhawk model takes Grand Cherokee's 4x4 capabilities even further by offering sway-bar disconnect for enhanced wheel articulation, automatic speed control on steep inclines/declines, high-strength steel skid plates, and upgraded all-terrain tires. You'll find the same prowess on the plug-in hybrid Trailhawk 4xe, with the added bonus of electric blue tow hooks instead of red tow hooks.
